How to Change the Fuel Filter on Prado 120 Series Landcruiser

Changing the fuel filter on your 120 Prado, is some of the cheapest insurance for your engine.

It can help guarantee that your engine receives the best quality fuel possible, free of dirt & water.

This is a really simple bit of maintenance that shouldn't be too hard. I’d say this is a beginner level of maintenance - just have lots of patience.

How to Change an Inline Fuel Filter

  1. Locate the inline fuel filter, in most cars they are located in the engine bay or midway along the chassis rails.

  2. Unclip the fuel lines going into the fuel filter. Mine were full of dirt, so I soaked them in WD-40 to clean them off. I used a small flat head screwdriver to help push them.

  3. Finally unbolt the mount from the car body & take out the old fuel filter.

  4. You can put in a new fuel filter & make sure you install it in the correct orientation.

  5. Finally, you may need to pressurise your fuel system, using your hand priming pump.

Equipment Required

No speciality equipment is required, other than basic hand tools & materials.

  • Screwdrivers

  • Ratchet & sockets

  • WD-40

  • Rags
