Travelling from Adelaide to Coober Pedy
This trip I’m driving from Adelaide to Darwin, to drop Millie off at her new job in Darwin.
But first we need to get to Coober Pedy, then we can explore the heart of the outback & checking out some of the amazing locations.
The Southern Flinders Ranges
Honestly, driving north out of Adelaide is one of the most least interesting drives possible.
There’s not a whole lot to look at.
But this all changes when you hit the Southern Flinders Rangers. Out of no where these amazing cliffs & mountains rise up, towering over you.
It’s absolutely amazing to drive along.
We had an uneventful journey past them, I would of loved to stopped, but we didn’t have time.
Augusta Salt Lake System
After leaving Port Augusta, it doesn’t take long for you to start driving through amazing salt lakes that riddle the area.
These lakes are insane to look at, from the height of the road they look large. But when you get down level with the salt lakes, they look like they go on forever.
We stopped at Lake Hart, to have a closer look.
The Most Relaxed Wedge Tail Eagle
Shortly after leaving the Augusta lake systems, we came across an animal sitting in the middle of the road.
From afar, we couldn’t really tell what it was.
But when we got closer, we could see it was giant wedge tail eagle. These birds are Australia’s biggest bird of prey.
We drove past slowly & he just looks up at us. Not in fear, he was in total control.
We stopped & went over to make sure he was okay. Sure enough he was fit & healthy, he was just relaxing on the road. He had no fear of us at all, he knew he was the apex predator.
What is there to do in Coober Pedy?
You know you’re in Coober Pedy when you start to see lots of holes in the ground.
This place is out of this world. It’s hot. It’s dry. There’s no plant life. There’s not a whole lot to do here, except look at opals.
We had a quick bite to eat in a pub, then went to bed.
In saying all of this, visiting Coober Pedy is quite an experience.
Thanks for supporting guys, I appreciate every-single one of you who visits this website.
